How To Make Sure You Are Not A Micromanager

New Leader Series Pt. 5

New leaders sometimes fall into the micromanaging trap.

They have a lot of pressure on them to do a great job, so they put that pressure on their teams to do things their way.

When you really think about leadership however, it's not just about getting tasks done, it is about empowering people, about inspiring them, abou bringing the best out of them. When you micromanage someone, you literally do the opposite of that! When you micromanage, you create a culture within your team that is not going to perform at their best!

They are not going to bring their A-game. Micromanaging is a self-fulfilling prophecy in that micromanagers treat people like they don't know what they are doing, they ACT like they don't know what they are doing.

If you have a tendency to lead this way, take a step back and look deep into the kind of leader you want to be and work hard on a new mentality around empowering others and bringing the best out of them.
