How To Get Over Imposter Syndrome

New Leader Series Pt. 3

Sometimes new leaders can feel as though they are impostors.

Because of their new role, with people reporting to them, they feel as if somehow they do not deserve the position that they are in.

They sit there just waiting for someone to figure out that they are not good enough for the job! It is so sad to see this for so many reasons!

What everybody suffering from imposter syndrome needs to know is that it is all In your head!

These are just fears playing out in your mind because you are in new territory. We all want to do a good job and nobody wants to look like an idiot. We all want people to like us and think we are awesome. Usually, imposter syndrome comes from the fear of all of that being taken away.

You were hired for a reason. You do have the skills to do this job. You are new, and you are going to make mistakes, and that is ok! If you take on the responsibilities of your new position from a perspective of learning and growth, you will do exactly that:

Learn and grow!

If you take it on like it's going to ruin you and everyone is going to figure out how incapable you are... I hate to tell you, that's how your leadership journey is going to go!

It's up to you to believe in yourself.

Believe that you earned this position.

Believe that you are capable of developing the skills you need to succeed in this role and lace-up your boots and start learning!

Get any resources you can get your hands on to develop you as a leader. Read books, talk to other leaders, take a course (I know of a good one you can find here www.jennyb.ca/courses).

You have got this!

Please drop me a comment below and let me know what you think of this series.

I would also love to hear your questions, so please don't be shy, I would love to hear from you!

All the love,
